Reflections of Life
Rosie Archie Glass: daughter, sister, wife, mother, First Lady and friend.
The light of the Lord shone so brightly out of this precious woman. It cannot be counted how many lives were brightened, sharpened and blessed by being in the presence of this awesome woman of God. No matter how long you had known Rosie, you always walked away assured of one thing; she genuinely loved God and His people.
Rosie was born December 25, 1948, the eldest child of seven, (one brother preceded her in death, Leon Archie) to the late Mrs. Fannie Gosa Archie and Mr. Eddie Archie in Berclair, MS. She confessed Christ at an early age at Perry Chapel CME Church in Itta Bena, MS. She later joined Jones Chapel #1 M.B. Church and remained a member until her husband, Milton Glass, became pastor of Green Grove M. B. Church, later named New Green Grove Church of Faith, where she served as president of the choir, youth leader, Sunday School teacher and anywhere else she was needed.
Rosie started her education at L. S. Rogers Laboratory School in Itta Bena, MS and graduated in 1967 from Threadgill High School where she was active in sports and the high school band. She was known by her classmates as "Righteous Rose."
She retired from South Central Bell in 2001 where she was employed for nineteen (19) years and served as the Union Steward over the Local Union. Rosie also worked for a short time at Walmart and WKXG radio station.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving husband of 45 years, Bishop Milton Glass; one son, Gerald Damon Glass (Jackie) of Greenwood, MS; one daughter, Stephanie Monique Glass of Greenwood, MS; one, step daughter, Gwendolyn Williams of Tchula, MS; two grandsons, Gerald Damon Glass, Jr. of Greenwood, MS and Jalen Glass of Vicksburg, MS; her father, Mr. Eddie Archie of Greenwood, MS; her mother in law, Ms. Jessie M. Glass of Greenwood, MS; two sisters, Jeanette A. Washington (Harvey) and Jacqueline A. Jackson (Greg) of Jackson, MS; five brothers, Clifton Edwards, Willie Archie and L. V. Archie (Carol) all of Greenwood, MS, Jerry Archie (Ruthie) of Brandon, MS and Ray Gertrude (Lisa) of Byram, MS; two god sisters, Jerlean Glover (Joe) of Memphis, TN and Mamie Watkins (David) of Greenwood, MS; two god children, Llvee Archie and Daisy Scott of Greenwood, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
ROSIE: My Neighbor, My Classmate, My Friend - I am SO grateful for the opportunity my sister, Sarah, and I had to visit you at your home in November, 2012. And though you seemed your ol' bubbly, talkative self during our visit, God knew best, and he called you HOME only a few short months later. I am SAD you are gone, but GLAD you are in a Better Place, where there is no sickness. I will forever cherish our high school bond, our long talks, and your keeping me up on all the latest gossip around town. So, Rest In Peace, my dear friend, until we meet again on the Other Side.
