Levi Henderson
July 28, 1947 ~ February 10, 2010

Levi Henderson was born July 28, 1947 on Dixie Lane in Greenwood, Mississippi to the parents of Solomon Il and Desserine Wright Henderson. Levi was the eldest of six children born to Solomon and Desserine, both of whom preceded him in death.
Three more sisters were joined to the Henderson family from the marriage of Solomon and Jessie Burks Henderson. One sister, Gloria Faye preceded him in death.

Levi accepted Christ at an early age, where he spent his childhood at St. Luke Church of God in Christ. At St. Luke, Levi was involved in the church's first youth choir. He had a very beautiful tenor voice. The most memorable song he led was "Jesus Be a Fence Around Me."

Levi finished high school at Threadgill High School in 1967 where he was a part of the high school choir. He went on to receive his associate's degree from Coahoma Community College in 1969 where he was a part of Coahoma's College Choir. After receiving his degree, Levi moved to Detroit, Michigan before making Chicago, Illinois his home for more than 30 years. Chicago is where Levi met his wife, Artie Drake. From that marriage union, their daughter, Desserine Drake, was born.

After retiring from Avis Car Rental Company for many years, Levi returned to Greenwood to live in 2007. In the short time of being back home, he made many more friends, especially with the people at the McNease Apartment Complex.

Levi was called home to be with God on February 10, 2010.

Levi leaves a loving family to cherish his memory, including a daughter, Desserine Drake of Chicago; a son, Arthur Drake of Chicago; three granddaughters: Angelia, Latashia and Tricia Thomas of Chicago who were the loves of Levi's life and they affectionally called him "Poppi," a mother, Jessie B. Henderson, of Greenwood, MS; three brothers: Solomon Henderson III (Terri) of Burke, VA, George Henderson (Olivia) of Memphis, TN and Kenneth Henderson of Knoxville; four sisters: Causie (Bill) Clay of Greenwood, Elizabeth Henderson of Washington, D.C., Esther Renee (Elder Jimmie) Scott of Greenwood, and Jessilyn Henderson of Rochester, MI; two uncles: Mack (Roz) Henderson of Milwaukee, WI and the Elder William C. (Hazel) Burks of Memphis, TN; three aunts: Irene Carthledge of Chicago, IL, Dorothy J. Hinton, Bessemer, AL and Barbara Jackson of Little Rock, AR; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
