August 25, 1947 ~ September 13, 2016
Philbert Harris, Jr. was born on August 25, 1947 in Leflore County, MS to the late Philbert and Viola Harris. He was called home on September 13, 2016 at his home.
Philbert was the seventh of ten children and was part of a large family of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He attended Greenwood public schools where he graduated from Threadgill High School. After high school, he attended Coahoma Junior College and received an Associate of Arts degree. He then went on to attend Jackson State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
Shortly after graduating from Jackson State, he began working at WABG Television Station where he worked as a technician until 2010.
Philbert accepted Christ at an early age. He rededicated his life to Christ during his adult years and became an active member of McKinney Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Philbert was a sports enthusiast and was a high school basketball standout. As a proud alum of Jackson State University, he loved attending JSU football games and keeping up with the details of their wins and losses. He also regularly attended Greenwood High football games and enjoyed watching any sporting event on TV. It's fair to say that for Philbert, if there was sports to be watched, he was watching!
He also loved old cars and enjoyed refurbishing his Mustang over the years.
He was preceded in death by his son Orlando McGee, brothers Archie Brown, James Moore, and Adnee Moore, and sister Velma Baker.
He leaves to cherish his memories: A loving wife of forty-three years, Lillie Harris; three daughters: Bridgette (Adam) Edwards of Pearl, MS, Dr. Kimberly (Wayne) Bethea of Suitland, MD, Marquita Harris of Memphis, TN; one son Torrance (Tia) Holt of Cordova, TN; five sisters: Laura Ford of Rockford, IL, Rosie (Bennie) Turner, Stella Turner, Geraldine (Lovett) Harris, Evelyn (Louis) Summer, one brother Theodore Harris all of Greenwood, MS; five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Rest in Peace my Friend
